Los Angeles: Los Feliz
Growing up, I had never heard that much about Los Feliz. It wasn't until five years ago when I came across this article in LA Magazine that showcased the area and some of the hipster places to check out, that I was determined to pay more attention to it. Usually I'll try to grab something to eat in this area before going to Griffith Observatory or Griffith Park, which it neighbors,
But it's a good go-to stop on the way to Griffith Park and Observatory to get some food and explore some shops.
My favorite shop is Soap Plant — an eclectic mix of... everything. Mostly books, clothes, art, toys, games ... it's one of those places you might go in to check out and come out with a plastic unicorn head. They also feature La Luz De Jesus in a part of the shop which is an art gallery that changes periodically.
Right across the street from Soap Plant is Yuca's — our chosen place to eat that day. It was kind of random, we were just super hungry really, but it ended up being a fantastic choice. Food was great, but so were the people. They were super super sweet.
Vermont Ave. in Los Feliz is a great place to park your car and walk around some other shops and places to eat including the independent Skylight Books bookstore — notable not only for it's staff literary knowledge, but also for the reading environment it provides.
If you have any more Los Feliz recommendations let me know! It's an area I definitely want to explore more.
